Luciano "Lucky" and Christy Montoya Luciano "Lucky" and Christy Montoya purchased a farm in Farmersville Ohio in June of 2003. Agriculture is our part of our culture. Farming and raising livestock is part of our history and know that we are raising two boys part of our future. Even though we live on a small parcel in the country, agriculture has always been the majority of our income. Lucky was raised in central New Mexico and his family has a ranching and farming background. Lucky is a auctioneer and has sold livestock and farm items. Christy's family as well has raised livestock for many generations. Her grandfather and father raised pigs and when Christy was a little girl her dad bought her a dairy goat. She has been raising and caring for goats ever since then. Christy has been a licensed ADGA judge for 12 years and a meat goat judge for many county's in the state of Ohio. She currently holds a license for Boer goats through the USBGA. Christy has judged all over the United States including the New Mexico State Fair, Indiana State Fair, and the Ohio State Fair. Christy was recently hired by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation as the Organizational Director for Butler, Hamilton, Montgomery and Warren county's. After purchasing the farm it did not take us long to start investing in livestock. Beside the many county fair projects that our two boys have, we have built a herd of 40 plus Boer Goats. Many are percentage does, but the majority are full blooded South African bloodlines. We have built our herd around our does. They must have two qualities: the first is they must be structurally sound and the second is that they must be good mommy's. We started out with a buck that we call Tomahawk purchased from 3c ranch in Texas. We had such good luck with him that we went back to 3c and bought a son of "The Playa" We recently lost our foundation doe to age but have added blood lines that go back to "Eggsfile". In the United States, this breeding has proven to be one of the most successful when making county fair wethers. We are always striving to better our herd. |
